The Misenheimer Solar Park sits on 500 acres of private land about a half mile west of Pfeiffer University along both sides of U.S. Highway 52. It was developed by EDP Renewables North America, a Houston-based company that operates 60 wind farms and 12 solar parks across more than 20 states and parts of Canada and Mexico. The park features approximately 200,000 panels with a capacity of 74 megawatts of electricity. The general contractor for the project was IEA Constructors, a leading infrastructure construction company with specialized energy and heavy civil expertise. Dykon was called to predrill the holes for the pile installation because the site contained some of the hardest rock in all of North Carolina, making construction impossible. Dykon mobilized a fleet of drills, not knowing what size hole would be required. Upon arrival, the job required a hole diameter for which no commercially manufactured bits were available on short notice. None were in stock in North America, and the wait time was six weeks to get them manufactured and shipped. Dykon quickly fabricated the needed drill tools onsite and met the production schedule safely and efficiently.
