Two newly installed bridge piers only 4ft away on each side.

Dykon Blasting

PROJECT DETAILS

Dykon was contacted by Union Pacific Railroad to assist with a damaged swing pier located at milepost 149.8 near Odem, Texas.  The piers integrity had been compromised and the Railroad had to build two new piers on each side of the old swing pier to hold up the newly installed span.  The river channel had to be restored to active status as soon as possible.  The challenge was the new piers were only 4ft from the old pier on both sides.  Further complicating matters was the logistics of drilling the pier.  With no barges available and only track access to the work site, Dykon requested a flat car be brought in so that the drill rig could drill through the tracks and ties from the deck of the car.  Dykon successfully worked with the RR to accomplish the precision concrete blasting with minimal track outage.
